Hi, I'm Annabel ๐Ÿ‘‹

I am a PhD student at Boston University's Faculty of Computing and Data Sciences, working with Professor Elizabeth Barnes. I am interested in understanding what machine learning weather and climate models learn by looking through a training dynamics lens, with particular interest in how learned physics and extreme event skill evolve throughout training.

Previously, I worked on detecting wildfire smoke from satellite imagery with deep ensembles at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (see the paper!), as well as using statistical methods to analyze global ocean circulation at the University of Washington (see poster!). During my undergraduate studies at the University of Washington, I studied applied mathematics, data science, and physical oceanography.

In my free time, you can find me exploring the Boston area via bike ๐Ÿšฒ, hanging out with my 2 cats ๐Ÿˆ๐Ÿˆโ€โฌ›, and cooking up new recipes ๐Ÿฅ˜.
